We haven't been terribly active for a while now. In a little over a year and a half we lost 3 beloved boys to cancers, battled constant soundness issues with Delilah, and had Lorelei diagnosed with Symmetrical Lupoid Onchodystrophy (SLO) and severe dental issues. She had surgery and lost over half her teeth and all of her toenails. Finding out that dear Sadie (Ninetytonothing, Lucius' littermate and our former foster) was also battling Osteo at the same time as the boys was painful as well. She, and her human family, are part of our family. Needless to say, travel and participation in activities took a backseat both time-wise and financially. We did work the Enchanted Chalice Faire last year but missed Carolina for the first time in 8 years as HoEF members (we have been attending for 14 years). We're hoping that 2016 sees a return to lure coursing, Renaissance festivals, and other exciting adventures!
Delilah and Lorelei have, of course, been retired due to soundness but we hope to get Nova out to run as a veteran (how can that be!?) and maybe Finn in singles this year. All of this goes to show that sometimes living with a pack of dogs can be painful, frustrating, and full of loss and missed opportunities. However, the supreme joy and light that they bring us everyday makes all of the bad days worth it. We greatly miss our lost boys and losing them so close together was devastating. But our current hounds bring us laughter, joy, fun, happiness, and "YAY" everyday and slowly the humans and the hounds are healing. Sometimes life knocks you down but the trick is to get back up and keep running. We're all in pursuit of that dream bunny here at Masquerade Hounds and one day we'll catch it.
