Hiking

I spent yesterday shuttling dogs back and forth to the state park to hike. I tailor each hike (trail, time, pace, etc) to the dog so this was my day:

Finnegan: We went alone. We power hike trails and then find the closest body of water to the car to chill out for a while. Finn prefers his hikes to be just us and I'm fairly certain water time is the dog version of meditation the way he relaxes and zones out. He has a lot of anxiety issues so anything that helps him relax is high on my to do list. Our hikes are generally pretty long. True to his breed, he can go all day.

Ava and Aziza: I have finally found the perfect hiking partner for Aziza. Momma Ava kept her on task and they walked so well together. Ava loved the creek, even after she stepped off a the shallow part and ended up in water up to her neck suddenly.   Both girls were very YAY to meet people on the trail and pose for their photos but not mine. Divas! They were nowhere near tired after a pretty long hike up some steep inclines. I was already tired by this time and thinking I should have done the Greyhounds first as a warmup.
Delilah: We went swimming. We practically ran down the trails and then spent half the time in the water. She's my water dog so I take her alone so she can swim as much as she wants. She also met about 10 people who all had to pet the Greyhound and shook off on 3 of them that attempted to say hi when she was in the water. Sorry about that folks. Even at almost 9 she remains my wildest dog. She has the nicknames the "WannaBeezer" and "The Great White Landshark" for a reason. The only Greyhound she has in her is her DNA.

Lorelei: Old Lady Lorelei is having trouble getting in and out of the car and needs carried up the stairs. She also had trouble with uneven ground on the hike so we stayed as flat as possible and did not take the hills to the creek. She enjoyed her time outside but was ready for a nap. She'll be 11 in 2 months and her SLO has flared up again recently. She has had so many health issues over the years but she still has a lot of heart. This was her telling me it was time to go back to the car.
Trillian and Nova: They required coercing to put leashes and collars on because they are both home bodies but then proceeded to hike with a purpose the entire time. They were looking for prey animals. We must investigate all tall grass and bushes. ALL of them. Seriously, there could be a bunny anywhere. They are pretty much go-go-go-go-STOP-go-go-go-go-stop.  I like taking them into the woods. They are still high alert for prey animals but there isn't any of that tempting tall grass that beezers are bred to hunt in and bounce in.

Each dog got a nice hike. I got 5.  I was exhausted and still had 2 hours of dance to go to. The beezers wanted to go hunt in the yard even though it was storming. Hiking is a nice warm up for them. When friends express interest in owning any of the Podenco breeds I offer to let them come to my house for the day and tire them out mentally and physically.   Many enter, few survive. When friends
